Preparing Your Room
Fire Completely Out (24 Hours Prior)
The stove or open grate must be completely cold with zero hot ash or glowing embers. Please do not light the fire for at least 24 hours before your appointment. Hot ash damages industrial extraction filters and presents an immediate safety risk.
Clear Hearth, Mantel & Floor Space
Please clear an approximate 2m × 2m working area directly in front of the fireplace. Move fireside tools (pokers, brushes, tongs), log baskets, candles, photo frames, and ornaments off the hearth and mantel so we have safe, unobstructed access.
Access Pathway & Plug Socket
Please clear a path from the front door to the hearth. A standard 13-amp plug socket is needed nearby for the HEPA vacuum.
Pets & Children
Please settle pets and children in another room during the sweep.
Clear Cold Ash & Grate
Please clear cold ash from the grate and pan prior to our visit. An empty firebox allows our extraction vacuum to maintain maximum suction throughout the sweep, keeping your room completely clean.
What to Expect on the Day
Modern Rotary Power Sweeping
We sweep primarily using drill-driven rotary power sweeping equipment. This provides a more thorough clean inside both stainless steel flexible liners and masonry flues than traditional manual push brushes.
Managing Soot & Floor Protection
We lay heavy clean floor runner sheets and operate a sealed, high-filtration industrial HEPA vacuum under continuous negative pressure.
Notice on structural flues
While we take every precaution with heavy sheeting, 100% dust containment cannot be guaranteed when opening old soot hatches or clearing heavy bird nests from structural masonry voids.
Smoke Evacuation Test
Following the sweep, an industry-standard smoke draw evacuation test is conducted to confirm the flue is drawing freely and venting gases safely to the outside terminal.
Digital Sweep Certificate
Issued digitally and emailed straight to you. Swept and certified by an NVQ Level 2 qualified sweep, it records appliance condition, flue type, smoke test results, and practical advisories for your household and insurance records.
Suspect a Bird's Nest or Blockage?
If twigs, debris, or dead birds have fallen into your grate, or if the chimney hasn't been swept in years, please do not book a routine 60-minute sweep. Nest removals require dedicated multi-hour slots.
